Scope & Content This collection contains correspondence, AAPA guidelines for establishing PA Program student chapters and the development and publication of the first newsletter by the Eugene A. Stead Jr. Student Society of Duke University. Barry Cassidy was an officer of the Stead Society when these items were created.
Admin/Biographical History Barry Cassidy, PhD, PA-C, was the first PA to practice in Illinois and the first cardiothoracic PA with the Mayo Clinic in Arizona. He is a Duke graduate from the class on 1971 and a former US Air Force medic. He was the academic coordinator at George Washington University's PA program (1973-1975) and a professor at the Midwestern University PA program (1996-2002). He was also appointed Associate Dean of university's College of Health Sciences in 1999. In 2002 he assumed the position of Executive Director of the Arizona Medical Board - the first PA to hold the position.
