Scope & Content This collection contains the papers of Roderick S. Hooker, a health services researcher and a rheumatology PA who has contributed over 150 peer-reviewed published studies, a book (in its 3rd edition), 12 book chapters, and numerous reports on the PA profession. Types of materials include statistical data and information on PAs, reprints, correspondence, reports, conference proceedings, publications, photographs, research proposals, congressional testimony and a booklet titled Tsunami of Tears.
Admin/Biographical History Roderick S. Hooker is a health workforce analysis with The Lewin Group headquartered in Falls Church, VA. He holds an undergraduate degree (BA, 1972) from St. Louis University, St. Louis, MO and graduate degrees (MBA, 1985) from City University, Seattle, WA and (PhD, 1997) from Portland State University, Portland, OR. Prior to completing the St. Louis University PA
Program in 1978, Hooker served in the US Navy as a hospital corpsman and was a biologist and health worker with the Peace Corps in Tongo.

Hooker served two decades with Kaiser Permanente as a Rheumatology physician assistant and concurrently as a health services researcher with the Kaiser Permanente Center for Health Research in Portland, Oregon. After leaving Kaiser, Hooker continued his health services research and clinical practice in rheumatology with the Dallas VA Medical Center in Dallas, TX. His major area of research is on organizational efficiency and the impact of introducing PAs and NPs into the healthcare workforce. On the clinical side, Hooker managed the Veteran Affairs Rheumatoid Arthritis registry, a national archive of observational data that is linked with a serum
and blood repository of every enrolled participant.

Hooker has served on the faculty of Pacific University, Hillsboro, OR and the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas, TX and has been a visiting professor at the University of Queensland School of Medicine, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. He is an adjunct professor in the School of Public Health at the University of North Texas, as well as a consultant to the Ministry of Health in Ontario and New Brunswick. He has authored over 150 peer-reviewed published studies, a book (in its 3rd edition), 12 book hapters, and numerous reports on the PA profession. He received a Recognition of Excellence award from Kaiser Permanente Northwest Region in 1988 and a Research Achievement Award in 2002 from the Association of Physician
Assistant Programs (now the Physician Assistant Education Association).
