Caption: Dr. and Mrs. Eugene Stead, center, were guests of honor Friday evening at a dinner party at the Olympic Club given by 20 students in the Physicians' Assistants Program at Duke University, a recently created para-medical program. Co-Chairman of the event, which gave students and senior staff members of the hopsital a chance to become aquainted, were John Braun, left, and Richard Scheele, right. The official hostess was Mrs. Thomas Andrioli who has been responsible for the curriculum in the program, which was started by Dr. Stead. Cocktails, dinner, and a skit by students were all part of the evening.

Copyright: MEDEX In the fall of 1977, MEDEX Senior Medical Director Timothy Evans (left) talks with Dr. Eugene Stead (right) while waiting to start rounds on Osler Ward in the old Duke Hospital. Dr. Stead, one of the founding fathers of the physician assistant profession, was former Chair of Medicine at Duke University School of Medicine. Dr. Evans did his internal medicine internship and residency at Duke, has been on the faculty of UW since the early 1980s, and began his long teaching career at MEDEX with guest lectures in 1987. This photo is from Dr. Evans' personal collection.
