Title Physician Burnout in a Prepaid Group Practice Health Maintenance Organization
Author Schmoldt, Ralph A.
Summary Work-related factors were examined for their influence on physician burnout in a large prepaid group practice health maintenance organization (HMO) using a structured questionnaire distributed to all full-time physicians in the medical group. Use of the Tedium Index resulted in classifying 12.4 percent of the physicians as burned out. In contrast, 54.3 percent of the physicians reported that burnout was a definite or occasional problem, using a self-report measure.
