Mark Behar, PA-C, DFAAPA, talks about his involvement in the early days of AAPA LGBT Caucus, his work with the HIV epidemic, and how he became one of the first medical providers to talk about HIV on TV. Behar was heavily involved with LGBT activism even before he became a PA. He helped to educate medical providers on HIV and other diseases that affect specifically the LGBT community. Not only did he help form the AAPA LBGT Caucus, but also the National Coalition of Gay Sexually Transmitted Disease Services and was the group's newsletter editor. He served on the Governor of Wisconsin Tony Earl's Council on Lesbian and Gay Issues in the mid-1980s. He was the executive producer of the Milwaukee Gay Lesbian Cable Network and made sure the program featured a health segment. |
