In 1968, Hu Myers, MD, (1902-1987) established the first baccalaureate degree program for PAs at Alderson-Broaddus College, located in Philippi, West Virginia. Dr. Myers also developed the College's nursing program (the first degree-granting nursing program in West Virginia) and opened the Myers Clinic Hospital. He worked with the American Medical Association to help develop the "Essentials" for PA program accreditation.
The Alderson-Broaddus University PA Program closed when the University did in 2023.
The Hu Myers Alderson-Broaddus collection comprises of two series: Series I being materials pertaining to the Alderson-Broaddus College PA Program and Series II being materials that relate to Hu Myers and Avanelle Myers themselves.
Materials consists of correspondence, grant applications, curriculum development, accreditation documents, reports, articles, brochures, certificates, patent information, photographs, and a scrapbook of PA program and personal materials.
