"As the 'last leaf upon the tree,' I feel I have a responsibility to the Myers family - my in-laws. With the recent encouragement of my friends, I have decided to put together the data I have, telling the story of this family. My first writing about the family was immediately following the death of Mrs. J. W. Myers (my mother-in-law), in 1964. I felt that because I knew her better than anyone except her children, that I must write about her life. Dr. Elmer had collected a great deal of data concerning his father and planned to write, or to have written, a book. With the death of Dr. Elmer, his wife gave me the box of material and because of that I have felt an obligation to him. With this and other data available, I felt that I should put it all together for both family and friends. Please consider this little book a part of the history of Barbour and Tucker counties, and, the story of what I considered a very wonderful family - The Myers family, my in-laws." |
