Abstract: Substantive changes in physician assistant (PA) education during the past two decades have expanded the roles and job descriptions of PA educators. This study employed online survey method to describe and analyze how the role of practicing clinician fits into the larger panoply of current professional expectations and educational responsibilities across the nationwide population of U.S. physician assistants employed as PA educators. Almost two-thirds of the 319 respondents included practicing clinician in their role set. Key findings showed that clinical practice, especially for those with teaching responsibilities in the clinical preparatory sciences, was an important and compatible part of the role set. There was minimal evidence that involvement or noninvolvement in clinical practice was related to role conflict. |
