Barbara Harris nee McKay, PA-C, (left) consulting with Dr. William Harris, ophthalmologist, Graystone Ophthalmology, Hickory, NC. Barbara Harris was the first PA to be given hospital privileges at Catawba Memorial Hospital, Hickory, NC in 1979. Around 1999, she began the first ophthalmic medical assistant program in the North Carolina Community College System. She is still the program director and serves as chair (dean) of the health sciences programs and nursing at the college. Photo is from a brochure for Catawba Memorial Hospital. |
